The single road that leads to the extreme point of the panhandle will take you to the Holy Monastery of St Andrew. Believed to be the Lourdes of Cyprus it is an extremely sacred place for Turkish and Greek Cypriots. It was on this site that St Andrew set foot in Cyprus to locate a fresh water spring to replenish its dwindling stocks, in order to continue his journey to the Holy Land. His footfall revealed a spring whose waters miraculously healed the eye of the captain’s ship. From this day on it has always been a sacred location, with thousands of pilgrims visiting the site to drink the blessed water with the hope of curing the individual’s ailments.
