One intriguing attraction of North Cyprus is its herbarium, which charms wild flower lovers, as well as providing a research centre for botanists to explore the island’s natural beauties, including the 17 North Cyprus “endemics” found nowhere else in the world. Formally opened in 1989, the herbarium now houses a collection of pressed plant specimens that provide information on local flora and fauna and a fascinating photography display, each carefully labelled to show when, where and by whom each was collected - at present, you will find over 1100 species on display. The herbarium is housed in the Alevkaya Forest Station on the mountain ridge between Esentepe and Değirmenlik.
